Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are frequently involved in the care of patients at risk for, or with, coronary artery disease. Exercise testing has long been used in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease. In addition, physical therapists often provide treatment to patients with a myocardial infarction or cardiac surgery in intensive care, acute care, and out-patient environments. Guidelines for cardiac rehabilitation and exercise testing are also provided in this summary.
